What Is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a cosmetic procedure that includes painting your teeth with a similar-colored composite resin substance to enhance their look. Bonding may improve the appearance of teeth with big gaps between them, as well as those that are cracked, chipped, discoloured, or fractured.

Dental bonding often needs little tooth preparation. In most cases, anesthesia is not required unless a decay is present or a previous restorative operation is being performed. The teeth are roughened with a conditioning gel so that the filling will adhere appropriately. The composite resin is then applied, followed by the use of a curing lamp to make it rigid. Next, the resin will be molded and polished to get its final appearance.

What To Expect During Your Dental Bonding Treatment

Usually, dental bonding involves only one trip to our clinic. Typically, each tooth may be treated in 30 to 60 minutes.

Your dentist will shape, harden, and polish the resin before bonding it to your tooth using adhesives and a high-intensity curing light.

Candidates For Dental Bonding

Any person having trouble with some of their teeth is a good candidate for dental bonding. If you are someone who has a minor dental problem including a chipped tooth, a big gap, a little enamel fracture, or teeth discoloration, you may be the right candidate for dental bonding. Dental bonding may easily resolve these problems without the need for an invasive restoration surgery.

Having said that, those who are considering getting dental bonding done must first have a complete set of teeth that is in good condition. The roots of the tooth that is chipped, cracked, or discolored must also be in good form and have all of their enamel intact in order for the bonding to be successful.
